Parikshith Janma

Chapter 12 of Skandha 1, titled Parikshith Janma, celebrates the auspicious birth of King Parikshit, the grandson of Arjuna and the last hope of the Kuru dynasty. His life is a divine gift—preserved in the womb by Lord Krishna himself, who protected the fetus from the deadly Brahmastra weapon released by Ashwatthama.

This chapter beautifully narrates:

  • The birth of Parikshit and the joy it brings to the Pandava family
  • His naming ceremony conducted by learned Brahmanas
  • Prophecies about his greatness, valor, and deep devotion
  • His destiny to become the listener of the Srimad Bhagavatham from Sukha Brahmarishi

Parikshit is described as a king born to uphold dharma in Kali Yuga, and his name—meaning “the examiner”—signifies his divine curiosity and spiritual depth.

This 6-minute 59-second recitation captures the hope and continuity of the Bhagavata lineage and sets the foundation for the entire future narration of the Purana.

📿 Parikshit’s birth reminds us that when dharma declines, the Lord ensures its rebirth through his divine will.
